It’s no secret some of the best competitions and battles today happen in and around Europe. For years and years inspired dancers and organizers have created different concept battles based off styles originating from the States while adding their own creative touch to the competitions.
Started in 2004, Snipes Funkin’ Stylez brought a unique urban dance battle format to a country and region growing rapidly in different street dance styles.
“Funkin’ Stylez is the first urban dance battle event that brings together different dance styles. Founded in 2004, Funkin’ Stylez grow quickly to one of the biggest urban dance events in Germany. This year Funkin’ Stylez is celebrating its 10th anniversary!
The battle concept of 5 vs. 5 in a mixstyle team battle is a concept which was brought to live by Funkin’ Stylez. This idea got so popular, that many other events are using the concept as well,” according to their Facebook page description.
Each year passing Funkin’ Stylez grew in popularity not only around Germany and surrounding countries but as well reaching out to dancers from all around the world. Funkin’ Stylez quickly saw opportunities to add other categories relevant to the dancers being involved with the annual event in Berlin.
“In 2008 Funkin’ Stylez was also one of the first Hip Hop battle events that introduced the dance style Voguing to Germany and Europe.
Since 2010 international qualifications are carried out in different categories. The Funkin’ Stylez event is made up of „Funkin’ Stylez Qualifier Tour”, „Funkin’ Stylez Only the strong“ and „Funkin’ Stylez World Team Battle“.
In 2012 the new category, Funkin’ Stylez Herokidz“ – a junior battle for dancers under 16 years was introduced,” according to their Facebook page.
The 10 year anniversary will include legendary judges specific to their style such as: Storm, Loose Caboose, Nelson, Malcolm, Seen, Mamson, Kefton, Archie Burnett, Mamson, and more. Each of these judges will be offering workshops through out the week leading up to the main events.
